What is theriomancy? Theriomancy or zoomancy is a form of divination that involves observation of the appearance and behavior of wild animals. Common forms of theriomancy include ailuromancy, the study of cat movements, and augury, the study of bird formations. While augury appears to be more fixed than other systems of divination, with some sources going as far as to interpret the direction of the birds’ flight, calls, and times of day, individual animal totem or spirit animals also have rich symbolism, which can be accessed by tuning into the oversoul of the animal.
I asked Spirit, what do all those who frequent this page need to know this week to stay in alignment with the highest good? Then, while out for a walk, I rendezvoused with a wild turkey on the edge of the forest. En route home, I also noticed its fresh tracks in the snow. Proffering the potential for manifesting a rich reality, Turkey Spirit represents generosity and a celebration of abundance through giving to others. “Give freely without expectation and you shall receive,” writes Hay House author and oracle card extraordinaire Colette Baron-Reid; “Align with it by sharing your good fortune with others, whether you give money, loving guidance, the gift of listening, or kindness in any form.” By immersing ourselves in the generous flow of abundance, we align with the desire of Spirit to see all beings experience the blessing of plenty: “Give with gratitude and grace, from a wellspring of love and compassion, knowing that Spirit will respond by giving you all that you need in this moment and all moments to come!”
INTERPRETATION
On Valentine’s Day, Monday, February 14, Mercury re-enters Aquarius after its retrograde back through Capricorn. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we may be given originality, intuition, and vast knowledge of human nature. While we may border on the abstract, astrosofa.com says we assert our independent spirit, are outgoing and passionate about the arts. Especially where we may have experienced delays or setbacks in the later part of January, when Mercury went retrograde, astrobutterfly.com adds we may now align with a much-anticipated resolution. While waiting may feel frustrating at the outset, retrograde periods encourage us to go within and gain a different perspective in turn strengthening our resolve.
Also on this day, Australian cosmologist Elizabeth Peru notes the Capricorn Stellium now completes, ushering in “a balancing energy… one that asks you to look at what you’ve created since late January [when the stellium began].” As we’ve been integrating “grounded daily cosmic sessions in how to move forward towards [our] highest goals, in both a trusting and an assured way,” the source continues, we may now be noticing the first tangible signs that the fruits of our labors are manifesting in the outer world. Abundant Turkey Spirit reminds us to acknowledge and give thanks for these signs, thereby cultivating trust in our inner being and the Universe to continue to provide.
Wednesday, February 16, Venus is conjunct Mars in Capricorn, “the peak in the apotheotic journey [these planets] have undertaken in the underworld.” While not the end of the story since Venus and Mars will remain in an orb for a few weeks prior to their triple conjunction with Pluto on March 3, at this time, astrobutterfly.com continues, “something will click. A commitment will be made.” While intense, astrosofa.com still identifies it as a favorable aspect that lasts for about two days. A commingling of pleasure and suffering, an addiction to pleasure awakens within, triggering “loose morals in some, perhaps… with concerns about love and marriage in others.” Indeed, the same source warns that heats of passion may cause inconstancy in our expression of feelings, and even partners!
Peru adds that the alignment of Mars and Venus helps harmonize our inner masculine and feminine energies, so that they may come together as one: “Use this great force welling up from within you to move forward on your heartfelt desires.” Turkey Spirit reminds us that a higher vibrational lifestyle is calling to us now and that the steps to create this reality are in our hands. Meanwhile, the planets' near proximity to the Pluto invites us to “release [old] destructive habits that may provide a few moments of pleasure, to be followed by days of uncertainly," Peru explains; "To trust in yourself means to follow in what’s good for you.” Pay attention to what happens at the time of the conjunction, astrobutterfly.com emphasizes—sudden insights and epiphanies that come to us during major cosmic events allow for higher timelines and new outcomes!
Also on this day, we have our Full Moon in Leo. Quincunx Pluto, astrobutterfly.com explains this lunar event invites us to shed what’s no longer vital and to find creative ways to integrate our unique gifts and talents with the world. Peru adds that the Full Moon is “glowing resplendently in the night skies, invoking a true sense of soul leadership.” While Spirit guides the steps we take, it requires much strength and self-mastery “to bypass the personality’s persistent need to be right and to not accept help.” As the Sun and the Moon oppose each other, the results of actions initiated around the time of the Leo New Moon on August 9, 2021 now reach their natural conclusion.
As we near the weekend, Jupiter in Pisces is sextile Uranus in Taurus on Thursday, February 17. Eager for positive changes in our lives, Turkey Spirit bless us with new insights and breakthroughs leading to good fortune, freedom, and new opportunities. Awakening our creative intelligence and experimentation, astrologyking.com describes the transit as a good time to tackle difficult tasks that have caused frustration or limitations in the past as well. On Friday, February 18, the Sun enters Pisces. After a challenging Aquarius season when we’ve been mostly in our heads, Pisces season is our invitation to get back in touch with our hearts. The final sign on the zodiac calendar, the astrological new year is right around the corner. Turkey Spirit inspires us to make the most of Pisces season by taking stock of the past year, and releasing what no longer serves, keeping only the lessons and the love.
