Owl Spirit

What is theriomancy? Theriomancy or zoomancy is a form of divination that involves observation of the appearance and behavior of wild animals. Common forms of theriomancy include ailuromancy, the study of cat movements, and augury, the study of bird formations. While ailuromancy appears to be more fixed than other systems of divination, with some going so far as to interpret the cat’s color or actions, individual animal totem or spirit animals also have rich symbolism, which can be accessed by tuning into the oversoul of the animal.

I asked Spirit, what do all those who frequent this page need to know this week to stay in alignment with the highest good? Then I manifested a cacophony of crow caws, followed by their sudden, territorial flight pattern back and forth from the same direction repeatedly. Although I was unable to spot their nest, when I went to the window to take a closer look, I did identify the source of the ruckus… a barn owl in a neighboring tree!

The favorite bird of Athena, Greek Goddess of knowledge, owl lore symbolized wisdom and protection. Since owls are known for their sharp vision and keen observation, when this spirit animal crosses your path you possess keen insight and intuition. Owl Spirit represents conscience, good judgment, and vibrational discernment—the ability to turn knowledge into wisdom. Denotes an approaching event that may affect life as you know it, Owl Spirit also foretells change or transition. Although change may be more subtle, it may be enough to compel us to leave old habits behind and seize the opportunity to create new and healthy ones. This can also usher in newer and better things that can improve our lives and take it to a new direction.

According to Hay House author and oracle school teacher Colette Baron-Reid, Owl Spirit suggests heightened sensitivity and receptivity. The spirit animal “reminds us to be wise and pay attention to what’s between the lines, what may be invisible to the naked eye, what cannot be heard with the ears, and what others may not be able to perceive.” Indeed, those with this spirit animal totem possess the vibrational discernment to see beyond the masks that people wear, cutting through illusion to arrive at their true motivations. Clarity will come as you sit with all that you are sensing, allowing your intuition to guide you in understanding the ‘whole [a]s more than the sum of its parts.’

Interpretation

With the Moon transiting Aquarius through Tuesday, the Aquarian Stellium is back as we begin the week. With the Moon, Venus, Mars and Saturn all in Aquarius, Australian cosmologist Elizabeth Peru notes “taking a progressive approach becomes [our] natural tendency;” moreover, the source and Owl Spirit empower us to make the best use of this energy by infusing all the actions we undertake with a sense of wonder.

Specifically, on Monday, March 28, Venus is conjunct Saturn within the Aquarian Stellium. Since we tend to be hard on ourselves under this constellation, astrosofa.com warns that we may expect too much support from our partner in achieving goals. Worries may arise in love and marriage; if we like someone new or wish to further a commitment, we may feel emotionally inhibited. Instead we may fall back on old behavioral patterns, such as an “active addiction to pleasure, loose morals, or the tendency to change partners.” More upliftingly, Peru and Owl Spirit add that Venus is aligning with the cosmic powerhouse of Saturn and Mars to draw out our deeper soul yearnings. “If you’ve been holding back your natural flow, afraid of expressing yourself for what the outcomes might be, then watch for your inner authority to burst forth today.”

According to astrobutterfly.com, this transit encourages us to check back in with our hearts. "Are the plans, ideas and initiatives [that we dreamt up during Pisces season] aligned with our values (Venus)? Can they fit into the big picture of our life (Aquarius)? Can they stand the test of time (Saturn)?" If so, the source identifies the upcoming month of April as our big chance to realize our wildest dreams. Not only do we have the much anticipated Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces, we have two Uranian eclipses that promise interesting twists and developments. While the universe may be giving us a unique opportunity to uplevel our lives, the source and Owl Spirit remind us that we must keep our eyes open, and be prepared to seize the opportunities that present themselves!

Thursday, March 29, the Moon now joins the Sun, Mercury, and Chiron in Aries forming another planetary stellium for the next 48 hours, amplifying the energies of the upcoming New Moon. “If you need to be quiet before you make your next move or take your next step, then do so, " says Peru; "Indeed you may notice that you’re more easily letting go of any over-controlling habits in your life." Meanwhile Owl Spirit continues to nudge us to 'walk by faith, not by sight' by continuing to divine a plan before attempting to implement it in the outer world.

The month begins auspiciously on Friday, April 1 with a New Moon in Aries for this supercharged action month of April, which sees the power day of 4:4 as well as a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Taurus on April 30. Closely conjunct the wounded healer asteroid Chiron and messenger planet Mercury, the New Moon may bring with it conditions that trigger us, providing us an opportunity to sit with our wound and heal it, once and for all. To manage the intensity, Peru and Owl Spirit guide us to “draw within for a period today, contemplating your direction this month and at the same time to listen to your intuition as you take considered and empowered action steps [to b]ring in your ideal reality.”

Since Chiron conjunct Mercury not only spells wounds that hurt but words that hurt, how the energies of this New Moon play out may vary based on our level of growth and ascension. Some of us might learn about something hurtful, or be reminded of some wounding event from the past, explains astrobutterfly.com; some may become aware of outmoded behavioral patterns that have kept us stuck in default mode, perpetuating karmic cycles of self-sabotage. On the other hand, others might simply get into arguments. According to Peru, interestingly, Chiron’s presence within the Aries Stellium may compel us to “spontaneously release some old attachments to the past. There’s a strong call to be personally free so that you can move ahead." Owl Spirit empowers us to allow the wound to become a portal—by reflecting upon our life in a nonjudgmental way, we may release old layers of stored guilt and shame that hold us back.

As the Aries Stellium continues this weekend, Peru concludes “the impressive stacking

[of planets] signals that progressive action will be taken in your personal life." On Saturday, April 2, the Sun and Mercury now form a conjunction in Aries, donating intense mental energy and good concentration; a keen memory, rhetorical skills, and appreciation for the arts, languages, and literature. Actively encouraging us to be quick-witted, sharp and creative with our communication skills, Owl Spirit and the messenger planet suggest "that expressing yourself authentically involves harnessing both your [inner] feminine and [inner] masculine flow." Indeed, this weekend’s cosmic energy helps us break out of old cycles by taking the action steps which will help us level up our lives!
