What is theriomancy? Theriomancy or zoomancy is a form of divination that involves observation of the appearance and behavior of wild animals. Common forms of theriomancy include ailuromancy, the study of cat movements, and augury, the study of bird formations. While augury appears to be more fixed than other systems of divination, with some sources going as far as to interpret the direction of the birds’ flight, calls, and times of day, individual animal totem or spirit animals also have rich symbolism, which can be accessed by tuning into the oversoul of the animal.

I asked Spirit, what do all those who frequent this page need to know this week to stay in alignment with the highest good? Then I heard a migratory gaggle of Canada geese flying overhead. The spirit animal visited me again the next day when I rendezvoused with a goose couple on the border of a small pond outside my home. As I continued my walk, by and by I came to another pond further afield that also had a goose couple!

Some of the key energetic traits associated with Goose Spirit include reliability, productivity, new ideas, joy, guidance, teamwork, quest fulfillment, watchfulness, and wisdom. In nature, geese are immensely territorial. If anything gets too close, they honk wildly as a warning. While you can be as nice as you wish, if Goose perceives you as a threat, there is no peace offering. This is why this spirit animal symbolizes fortitude, protection, and bravery. Interestingly, in Ancient Rome, geese were sacred to the Goddess Juno, protectress of the State, daughter of Saturn, wife of Jupiter.

When Goose crosses your path, this oracle may be guiding you toward some type of hidden treasure (whether spiritual or material; non-physical or physical). As we travel our soul’s path, for example, there may come times when we are honing in on a Universal Truth, but are in danger of missing the lesson due to distractions. Goose wants to get you back on course, so you don’t miss this opportunity to truly live your bliss.

Another common reason Goose may appear is when we have grown restless or complacent in our current conditions. Goose moves to eat, breed, or find a safe haven. Where is it that you need to go for spiritual nourishment? Spread your wings and trust that you are taking the right action to stay in alignment with your highest intentions. Gregarious gaggles of geese also speak of companionship and social circles. Could you have sequestered yourself too much during the pandemic? Have you been afraid to open up? This oracle nudges you to engage in authentic relationships leading towards your chosen family or soul tribe, or even the adoption of a new role in your community.

Since Goose feathers were used as a favorite writing implement historically, the oracle also honors communications skills. Thought to be the perfect medium for moving ink fluidly onto paper, many writers believed that the Goose quill had a kind of magic that manifested in the muse and vision.

Now that the Sun has moved into Aries, the Piscean Stellium now completes as a “wave of emotions… releas[e] all at once.” With Mercury still in Pisces, and two further conjunctions with the remaining planets in this sign along with a sextile to Pluto before it finally shifts into Aries on Sunday, emotional expression is front and center this week. Australian cosmologist Peru adds that Mercury’s “waves of energetic force [are] encouraging you to express yourself, however you feel. Rather than judging yourself… or being too afraid to reveal your true feelings… do the opposite.” Self-acceptance is the key to opening up, and Goose Spirit empowers us to follow though and make some positive moves. Indeed, with Mercury still in Pisces this week, there’s plenty of innovative ideas and spiritual inspiration flowing in!

With the shift of the seasons comes the call for our freedom of expression, for just after the Equinox, Monday, March 21, Mercury is now conjunct Jupiter in Pisces. “Mercury’s yearly encounter with Jupiter is our opportunity to go BIG in everything that Mercury stands for,” explains astrobutterfly.com. Under this constellation, astrosofa.com adds, we have optimistic thinking, a practical attitude to life, balanced judgment and the right level of understanding. While we need Jupiter’s infusion of optimism to articulate something important and meaningful, the sources warn there can also be the tendency to exaggerate or overidealize our ideas. If we can maintain a spirit of balance during this time, however, Goose Spirit assures us that we may be exceptionally creative in developing our skills.

Starting Tuesday, March 22, Mars in Aquarius is square Uranus in Taurus. According to astrosofa.com, this challenging aspect may bring imbalance, irritability, and restlessness for the next two days, including “passionate excitability, contradictory, violent behavior, and even injury.” While personalities could be triggered under this light, Peru notes that a good use of this influence is to help us shift out of procrastination. “There’s great potential for making decision that you’ve been wavering upon for some time… You’re realizing that your intentions are only half of the manifestation equation.” Indeed, once we have a plan we must begin to implement it by taking action. Goose Spirit reminds us that we also must allow universal forces to participate as the necessary cooperative components assemble, conspiring to help us achieve our goal—'ask and ye shall receive!'

On Wednesday, March 23, building upon Jupiter’s expansive ideas, Mercury is now conjunct Neptune in Pisces. “If you came up with a great idea when Mercury was conjunct Jupiter, Neptune will help you see even more opportunities” explains astrobutterfly.com. While we still want to be on the lookout for wishful thinking, this transit is generally very beneficial for overcoming victim mentality or scarcity mindset; Jupiter’s optimism and Neptune’s idealism help us reframe our thinking and take a more optimistic view of life. Peru adds that Neptune is reconnecting us with our spiritual and mystical sides, our sense of home, and the omnipotent, all-present essence of Spirit. While we may be especially self-reflective today, the source and Goose Spirit inspire us to use this meditative space as a wellspring for answers and guidance. Indeed, “the insight, cleansing and clearing that’s taking place will help you deepen all of your personal connections.”

Just before Mercury moves into Aries, on Saturday, March 26, it forms a favorable sextile to Pluto in Capricorn, giving us new drive, quickness, diplomatic skills, eloquence and literary quality. Peru adds that today’s cosmic energy help us break out of old cycles by taking action steps which will open us up to new possibilities. “See your ‘new reality’ out in front of you, already forming, today. You’re already living it. Trust in this process!” the source encourages with Goose Spirit.

Sunday, March 27, 2022, Mercury finally enters Aries, giving us a sharp and quick mind. “We think constructively and focus on real actions,” says astrosofa.com. During this time, we act decisively and resolutely; we are passionate in our discussions. “Now those big Jupiter and Neptunian ideas and possibilities that stand a realistic chance to get materialized will be put into action” asserts astrobutterfly.com. “The Sun is aligning with Mercury to clarify and change up your drive and enthusiasms for communicating with a renewed sense of assurance,” adds Peru. Indeed, "expressing yourself authentically could be something that you’re striving to achieve!” exclaims Goose Spirit.
