The weekly astro-oracle is a theriomancic message:
Blue Jay Spirit

What is theriomancy? Theriomancy or zoomancy is a form of divination that involves observation of the appearance and behavior of wild animals. Common forms of theriomancy include ailuromancy, the study of cat movements, and augury, the study of bird formations. While augury appears to be more fixed than other systems of divination, with some sources going as far as to interpret the direction of the birds’ flight, calls, and times of day, individual animal totem or spirit animals also have rich symbolism, which can be accessed by tuning into the oversoul of the animal.
I asked Spirit, what do all those who frequent this page need to know this week to stay in alignment with the highest good? Then I went out for a walk and rendezvoused with a blue jay who suddenly dive-bombed the ground from a nearby tree. The very next day, I noticed another blue jay playfully darting from tree to tree. On account of its repetition, I recognized it as our weekly spirit animal.
According to yourtango.com, blue jay is a popular bird native to eastern North America known for its loud song and vibrant blue color which is the same color as the throat chakra — the chakra of truth. Indeed, much of its spiritual meaning derives from its appearance. The source explains that blue jays are rather simple to recognize due to their distinctive look and behavior. The spirit animal is rather large with a crest color that can range from blue to white and black. While noisier than other birds, it is also described as curious, trustworthy, talkative, and resourceful.
Commonly regarded as a spiritual animal representing faithfulness, solidarity, courage, and protection, Blue Jay Spirit is also associated with intelligence, communication, and curiosity. Depending on its context, however, the shadow side of this spirit animal may symbolize noise, mimicry, mischief, and changeability. While one may notice them more often in times of self-doubt, the most common interpretation of its visit suggests a loyal and trustworthy person.
As songbirds that love to sing in their spare time, blue jay's sense of creativity is also one of its celebrated attributes. Enchanting everyone around it with its special sounds, the spirit animal help us understand the importance of expressing our inner sense of creativity. To this end, where there is the tendency to try to fit in our environment rather than stand out, Blue Jay Spirit reminds us to start expressing ourselves more freely. There are aspects of our personalities that are unique. Sharing our creativity can positively impact our environment and also ourselves.
INTERPRETATION
As we start the first week of the new year, the Super New Moon’s impact is still palpable. “Some could be feeling quiet, lethargic and unsure about the path ahead,” reflects Australian cosmologist Elizabeth Peru in her Weekly Tip-Off Global Energy Forecast. Indeed, reassessing our motivations, authenticity, and a firmly grounded practicality are some of the hallmarks of this Capricorn New Moon. In addition, with Mercury’s recent shift into Aquarius comes the completion of the Capricorn Stellium—until late January when Retrograding Venus and Pluto will be joined by Mars and Retrograding Mercury. With that said, Peru notes that we may still feel its reinforcing effects for the next couple of days. Adding to the cosmic flow at this time, the Earth will be at its closest to the Sun all year.
Moreover, it’s the beginning of Mercury’s pre-shadow phase as it prepares to go retrograde on January 14. Accordingly, over the next two weeks, Peru and Blue Jay Spirit encourage us to pay particular attention to our recurring daily communication themes, for these will form the core personal themes of what we’ll be healing and/or finding solutions from January 14-February 2. “Indeed, this is a powerful period to let go of any constraints that you’ve placed around the way that you articulate your true nature,” the source explains. Blue Jay Spirit helps activate the throat chakra under this cosmic light, guiding us to “take intentional breaths before you speak. Consider your language and listen to the sounds you make. The genuine soul flows.”
The sextile between Retrograding Venus and Neptune in Pisces on Wednesday, January 5 arouses our tender, sensual, and caring side. A good time for passionate romantic encounters, our increased sensitivity and imagination enhances our magnetic allure attracting the same, says astrologyking.com, and quite possibly a genuine soulmate or spiritual partner. Since Neptune rules images, film, and screens, this may involve sharing romantic moments on the internet, art, dance, music, and other forms of creative expression. Our intuition and spiritual gifts are heightened and we may gain valuable insight through dreams and visions.
Peru adds that the alliance between Retrograding Venus and Neptune causes our “innermost secrets and hidden drives to arise.” Especially where we’ve been dreaming about that ideal relationship, perhaps creating castles in the air, the source nudges us to look a little deeper. This transit helps provide a window into who we really are and what we really want in our relationships. Blue Jay Spirit encourages us to be honest with ourselves and to love ourselves as we are rather than trying to change to ‘fit in’ with collective ideals. “Seek to engage with your soul (your heart) and allow your ancient, wise presence to emanate more fully,” says Peru; “Soul is directing the view into your future reality today.”
On Saturday, January 8, the Sun is conjunct Retrograding Venus in Capricorn. Donating a strong sense of love, pleasure in luxury and beauty, and popularity with the opposite sex, we feel fit and friendly this weekend and have a warm, positive charisma. While an interest in art and culture may also emerge, astrosofa.com cautions against senselessly indulging in luxury. Signifying “a rebirth of the heart,” this transit marks the beginning of a new 18-month Venus cycle bringing with it a powerful renewal energy to get crystal clear about who we really are and what it is that we truly want. “Our heart chakra realigns with the Solar Plexus. Our values realign with who we truly are,” explains astrobutterfly.com. While not necessarily a time to make any final decisions or bold movements since Venus is still retrograde, Bluejay Spirit empowers us to use this transit to let go of the old parts of ourselves which used to define us, and reconnect with our true self. While this is the indivisible essence of who we are, it is often hidden behind layers and layers of false conditioning.
